Analysis of smoking behaviour in Whakaki in 2018 compared to Gisborne Region shows that there was a higher proportion of people were regular smokers, a higher proportion of people who were ex-smokers and a decreased by proportion of people who had never smoked regularly.
Overall, 26.4% of Whakaki's population were current smokers, 29.2% were ex-smokers and 44.4% had never smoked regularly, compared with 21.9%, 25.4% and 52.7% for Gisborne Region respectively.
There were no major differences in Whakaki between 2013 and 2018.
