Occupation of employment

There were more professionals in Pataua than any other occupation in 2018.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Pataua in 2018 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (204 people or 23.5%)
  • Managers (177 people or 20.4%)
  • Technicians and trades workers (147 people or 17.0%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 528 people in total or 60.9% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Whangarei District Council employed 20.8% in Professionals; 16.7% in Managers; and 13.9% in Technicians and trades workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Pataua and Whangarei District Council were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Managers (20.4% compared to 16.7%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Technicians and trades workers (17.0% compared to 13.9%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Professionals (23.5% compared to 20.8%)

The number of employed people in Pataua increased by 225 between 2013 and 2018.

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2013 and 2018 in Pataua were for those employed as:

  • Technicians and trades workers (+69 persons)
  • Managers (+54 persons)
  • Professionals (+54 persons)
