Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Wairoa District in 2018 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Agriculture, forestry and fishing (855 people or 23.5%)
  • Manufacturing (702 people or 19.3%)
  • Education and training (390 people or 10.7%)

In combination these three industries employed 1,947 people in total or 53.6% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Mahia employed 30.1% in Agriculture, forestry and fishing; 6.7% in Manufacturing; and 14.7% in Education and training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Wairoa District and Mahia were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (19.3% compared to 6.7%)
