In 2018, 13.4% of the population in South Wairarapa District were regular smokers.

Dominant groups

Analysis of smoking behaviour in South Wairarapa District in 2018 compared to Wellington Region shows that there was a higher proportion of people were regular smokers, a higher proportion of people who were ex-smokers and a decreased by proportion of people who had never smoked regularly.

Overall, 13.4% of South Wairarapa District's population were current smokers, 30.2% were ex-smokers and 56.4% had never smoked regularly, compared with 11.8%, 22.7% and 65.5% for Wellington Region respectively.

The largest changes in the smoking behaviour of the population in South Wairarapa District between 2006 and 2018 were for:
