Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Porirua City in 2018 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Public administration and safety (3,540 people or 12.5%)
  • Construction (3,042 people or 10.8%)
  • Professional, scientific and technical services (2,952 people or 10.5%)

In combination these three industries employed 9,534 people in total or 33.8% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Wellington Region employed 12.9% in Public administration and safety; 7.8% in Construction; and 13.4% in Professional, scientific and technical services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Porirua City and Wellington Region were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (10.8% compared to 7.8%)
