Location and boundaries
Raumati Beach is bounded by the Kāpiti Coast Airport and the locality of Paraparaumu Central in the north, State Highway 1 in the east, the locality of Raumati Beach South in the south, and the Tasman Sea in the west.
Raumati Beach is named from a Māori word meaning 'summer'.

European settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, although population was minimal until the early 1900s. Growth occurred during the 1920s and 1930s as land was subdivided. Rapid development took place from the 1960s into the 1980s. The population increased gradually between 1996 and 2013 as new dwellings were added to the area.
Raumati Beach is an established residential area.
Major features of the area include Raumati Beach, Kāpiti Marine Reserve, Raumati Beach Shopping Village, Kāpiti Miniature Railway, Kāpiti Marine Gardens, Matai Road Reserve, Weka Park and two schools.
