Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Hutt City in 2018 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, scientific and technical services (6,489 people or 11.8%)
  • Public administration and safety (6,138 people or 11.2%)
  • Health care and social assistance (5,211 people or 9.5%)

In combination these three industries employed 17,838 people in total or 32.5% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Wellington Region employed 13.4% in Professional, scientific and technical services; 12.9% in Public administration and safety; and 9.4% in Health care and social assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Hutt City and Wellington Region were:
