The size of Hutt City's labour force in 2018 was 58,887 persons, of which 11,337 were employed part-time and 43,563 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in Hutt City in 2018 compared to Belmont Park and Manor Park shows that there was a lower proportion in employment, and a higher proportion unemployed. Overall, 93.2% of the labour force was employed, and 6.8% unemployed, compared with 97.1% and 2.9% respectively for Belmont Park and Manor Park.

Analysis of the labour force participation rate of the population in Hutt City in 2018 shows that there was a higher proportion in the labour force (70.6%) compared with Belmont Park and Manor Park (66.7%).
