Location and boundaries
Holborn is bounded by Stokes Valley Road in the north and east, Evans Street, George Street, Logie Street and the locality of Delaney in the south, and the locality of Taita North, Eastern Hutt Road and the Hutt River in the west.

European settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, although population was minimal until the early 1900s. Significant residential development took place from the 1960s into the 1980s. The population fluctuated slightly between 1996 and 2013, a result of small changes in dwelling stock and the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
Holborn is an established residential and conservation area.
Major features of the area include Stokes Valley Pool, Stokes Valley Community Centre, various recreation reserves and one school.
