Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the workforce in Dunedin City in 2018 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (15,537 people or 26.7%)
  • Managers (8,196 people or 14.1%)
  • Technicians and trades workers (6,969 people or 12.0%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 30,702 people in total or 52.9% of the workforce.

In comparison, Otago Region employed 20.2% in Professionals; 17.8% in Managers; and 13.2% in Technicians and trades workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the workforce in Dunedin City and Otago Region were:

  • A larger percentage of people employed as professionals (26.7% compared to 20.2%)
  • A larger percentage of people employed as clerical and administrative workers (11.4% compared to 9.9%)
