Dominant groups

Analysis of the qualifications of the workforce in Dunedin City in 2018 compared to Otago Region shows that there was a higher proportion of people holding formal qualifications (Higher degrees, Bachelor degrees and Post School (excluding university) qualifications), and a lower proportion of people with no formal qualifications.

Overall, 88.5% of the workforce held educational qualifications, and 9.8% had no qualifications, compared with 83.4% and 10.8% respectively for Otago Region.

The major differences between the qualifications held by the workforce in Dunedin City and Otago Region were:

  • A larger percentage of people with higher degrees (16.3% compared to 12.1%)
  • A larger percentage of people with bachelor degrees (17.8% compared to 15.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of people with post school qualifications (excluding university) (26.3% compared to 28.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of people with no qualification (9.8% compared to 10.8%)

The largest changes in the qualifications held by the workforce in Dunedin City between 2006 and 2018 were:
