Analysis of the language spoken by the population of Dunedin City in 2018 compared to Mosgiel Central shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those who spoke Māori, or Māori and English.
Overall, 84.4% spoke English only and 1.7% spoke Māori, or Māori and English, compared with 92.6% and 1.0% respectively for Mosgiel Central.
The dominant language spoken at home, other than English, in Dunedin City was Māori , with 2.0% of the population, or 2,574 people speaking this language at home.
