Please note that in the 2018 Census, where data are not provided, responses are sourced from administrative datasets, in line with the procedures developed by Statistics New Zealand to supplement the 2018 dataset. Due to this, there is no "Not elsewhere included" category in 2018, and users should use caution when comparing to earlier Census years.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Opoho in 2018 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Education and training (165 people or 25.0%)
  • Health care and social assistance (111 people or 16.8%)
  • Professional, scientific and technical services (81 people or 12.3%)

In combination these three industries employed 357 people in total or 54.1% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Dunedin City employed 13.9% in Education and training; 13.7% in Health care and social assistance; and 8.0% in Professional, scientific and technical services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Opoho and Dunedin City were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (25.0% compared to 13.9%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (12.3% compared to 8.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (3.6% compared to 8.1%)

  • Accommodation and food services (-18 persons)
  • Public administration and safety (+18 persons)
