Dominant groups
Analysis of individual income levels in the Dunedin City in 2018 compared to the Brighton shows that there was a lower proportion of persons earning a high income (those earning more than $70,000 per annum) and a higher proportion of low income persons (those earning less than $15,000 per annum).
Overall, 12.8% of the population earned a high income, and 30.0% earned a low income, compared with 16.9% and 18.4% respectively for the Brighton.
The major differences between the Dunedin City's individual incomes and the Brighton's individual incomes were:
- A larger percentage of persons who earned $1 to $5,000 (8.5% compared to 3.2%)
- A larger percentage of persons who earned $5,001 to $10,000 (7.1% compared to 2.7%)
- A smaller percentage of persons who earned $50,001 to $70,000 (12.8% compared to 16.9%)
