Analysis of the household types in Dunedin City in 2018 compared to Port Chalmers shows that there was a higher proportion of one family households as well as a higher proportion of group households. Overall, 60.7% of total households were one family households, and 7.5% were group households, compared with 58.9% and 1.0% respectively for Port Chalmers.
There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of multi-family households. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 26.8% compared to 33.5% in Port Chalmers while the proportion of multi-family households was 1.5% compared to 1.0% in Port Chalmers.
