Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Dunedin City in 2018 compared to Otago Region shows that there was a similar proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 17.0% of the male population was aged between 0 and 14, and 15.0% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.3% and 15.6% respectively for Otago Region.

The major differences between the age structure of Dunedin City and Otago Region were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 20 to 24 (10.5% compared to 8.3%)
