Dominant groups
Analysis of the five year age groups of Dunedin City in 2018 compared to Roslyn shows that there was a similar proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 14.7% of the female population was aged between 0 and 14, and 17.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 14.7% and 24.4% respectively for Roslyn.
The major differences between the age structure of Dunedin City and Roslyn were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 20 to 24 (10.8% compared to 5.9%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 15 to 19 (10.1% compared to 6.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (2.8% compared to 8.3%)

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2013 and 2018 were in the age groups:

- 65 to 69 (+531 persons)
- 55 to 59 (+522 persons)
- 40 to 44 (-480 persons)
