Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Dunedin City in 2018 compared to Glenleith shows that there was a lower proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 14.7% of the female population was aged between 0 and 14, and 17.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.2% and 16.2% respectively for Glenleith.

The major differences between the age structure of Dunedin City and Glenleith were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 85 and over (2.8% compared to 1.0%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 15 to 19 (10.1% compared to 8.8%)
