Dominant groups

Analysis of the family types in Port Chalmers in 2018 compared to Dunedin City shows that there was a lower proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 35.4% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 19.7% were one-parent families, compared with 38.9% and 15.8% respectively for Dunedin City.

There were a similar proportion of couples without children in Port Chalmers, 44.9% compared to 45.3% in Dunedin City.
