Analysis of the family types in Dunedin City in 2018 compared to Otago Region shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 38.9% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 15.8% were one-parent families, compared with 38.3% and 12.8% respectively for Otago Region.
There were a lower proportion of couples without children in Dunedin City, 45.3% compared to 48.9% in Otago Region.
