Dominant groups
Analysis of the ethnic population in Mosgiel Central in 2018 compared to Taieri shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who identified themselves as European, a similar proportion of people who identified themselves as Maori and a similar proportion of people who identified themselves as Pacific Peoples.
Overall, 94.0% of the population identified themselves as European, 5.5% as Maori and 1.3% as Pacific Peoples, compared with 95.6%, 5.4% and 1.2% for Taieri respectively.
The major differences between the ethnic groups responses of the population in Mosgiel Central and Taieri were:
- A larger percentage of responses to Asian ethnic group (2.8% compared to 1.2%)
- A smaller percentage of responses to European ethnic group (94.0% compared to 95.6%)
