The size of Belleknowes's labour force in 2018 was 1,239 persons, of which 294 were employed part-time and 873 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in Belleknowes in 2018 compared to Dunedin City shows that there was a higher proportion in employment, and a lower proportion unemployed.
