The size of Tainui's labour force in 2018 was 1,209 persons, of which 273 were employed part-time and 876 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in Tainui in 2018 compared to St Kilda South shows that there was a higher proportion in employment, and a lower proportion unemployed. Overall, 95.0% of the labour force was employed, and 5.0% unemployed, compared with 94.4% and 5.6% respectively for St Kilda South.
