Dominant groups

The size of Dunedin City's labour force in 2018 was 68,424 persons, of which 17,940 were employed part-time and 45,888 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in Dunedin City in 2018 compared to Kenmure shows that there was a lower proportion in employment, and a higher proportion unemployed. Overall, 93.3% of the labour force was employed, and 6.7% unemployed, compared with 96.6% and 3.4% respectively for Kenmure.

Analysis of the labour force participation rate of the population in Dunedin City in 2018 shows that there was a lower proportion in the labour force (64.3%) compared with Kenmure (74.6%).

Emerging groups

Between 2013 and 2018, the number of people employed in Dunedin City showed an increase of 7,806 persons and the number unemployed showed an increase of 36 persons. In the same period, the number of people in the labour force showed an increase of 7,842 persons, or 12.9%.
