Analysis of car ownership in 2018, indicates 54.3% of households in Broad Bay-Portobello had access to two or more motor vehicles, compared to 80.8% in the Taieri.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the car ownership of the households in Broad Bay-Portobello in 2018 compared to the Taieri shows that 91.4% of the households owned at least one car, while 4.3% did not, compared with 93.4% and 1.1% respectively in the Taieri.
Of those that owned at least one vehicle, there was a larger proportion who owned just one car; a smaller proportion who owned two cars; and a smaller proportion who owned three cars or more.
Overall, 37.0% of the households owned one car; 35.8% owned two cars; and 18.5% owned three cars or more, compared with 12.6%; 38.5% and 42.3% respectively for the Taieri.
