Analysis of individual income levels in the Whanganui District in 2013 compared to the New Zealand shows that there was a lower proportion of persons earning a high income (those earning more than $70,000 per annum) and a higher proportion of low income persons (those earning less than $15,000 per annum).
Overall, 6.6% of the population earned a high income, and 26.6% earned a low income, compared with 12.4% and 26.0% respectively for the New Zealand.
The major differences between the Whanganui District's individual incomes and the New Zealand's individual incomes were:
