Seatoun - Karaka Bays - Breaker Bay is bounded by the suburb of Maupuia in the north, the harbour and Cook Strait in the east, a line running east-west to the north of Breaker Bay Road in the south, and the suburb of Strathmore Park, the Eastern Walkway, Beacon Hill Road, Seatoun Heights Road, Townsend Road, the suburb of Miramar, Seatoun Heights Road and Nevay Road in the west.

Colonial settlement of the area dates from the 1840s. Population was minimal until the late 1870s when land was subdivided. Growth took place from the 1890s into the early 1900s, particularly during the 1920s. Expansion continued from the 1960s. The population increased gradually between 2001 and 2013 as new dwellings were added to the area.
