Colonial settlement of the area dates from the 1840s, with land used mainly for farming. Population was minimal until the late 1800s. Significant development did not occur until the 1920s. Expansion continued during the post-war years, particularly in the 1970s. The population increased gradually between 2001 and 2013 as new dwellings were added to the area.
Maupuia is a residential and open space area.
This small area encompasses most of the suburb of Maupuia, and a small part of Miramar.
