Colonial settlement of the area dates from the 1840s, with land used mainly for farming. Growth took place from the 1870s into the early 1900s, particularly during the 1920s. The population increased between 2001 and 2006 as new dwellings were added to the area, and then was relatively stable between 2006 and 2013.
