Karori is bounded by the locality of Makara and the suburb of Wilton in the north, Seaforth Terrace, Old Karori Road, Curtis Street, Chaytor Street, Northland Tunnel Road, Waiapu Road and the suburb of Highbury in the east, the suburbs of Brooklyn and Owhiro Bay and the locality of Makara in the south, and generally by the locality of Makara in the west.

Settlement history

Colonial settlement of the area dates from the 1840s, with land used mainly for farming and timber-getting. Growth took place from the late 1800s into the early 1900s. Expansion continued during the post-war years. The population increased gradually between 2001 and 2013 as new dwellings were added to the area.
