Wairoa DistrictCommunity profile

In 2018, 60, or 1.7% of [theA]’s working residents travelled outside of the area to work.

Understanding where employed residents travel to work is important information for Local Government. It assists in planning and advocacy for roads and public transport provision. It also helps to clarify the economic and employment drivers across areas and assists in understanding the degree of employment self containment within a local government area. Areas with a high level of self-containment are likely to either be remote areas without the opportunity to commute out, large metropolitan size TAs, or central city areas with a diverse employment base. In contrast, suburban residential areas near large cities often have a low level of self-containment.

The data that are presented below are based on the 2018 Census Question: 'In the jobs that you worked the most hours in, during the 7 days to Sunday 4 March 2018, did you work at home, or work away from home?'. If the 'away from home' response is chosen, the question asked 'Print the full address of the place you mostly worked at.'

This dataset is then cross-tabulated with the person's current usual residential address to create a matrix of home to work, with the focus of the analysis on the work destination. All people in this table had a usual residence address in [theA], and the table breaks down their area of work destination, based on the workplace address.

Q:

Derived from the Census:

'In that job, did you mostly? Work at home or work away from home. Print the full address of the place you mostly worked at.'
