Dominant groups

The size of Wairoa's labour force in 2018 was 2,073 persons, of which 459 were employed part-time and 1,341 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in Wairoa in 2018 compared to Wairoa District shows that there was a lower proportion in employment, and a higher proportion unemployed. Overall, 86.8% of the labour force was employed, and 13.2% unemployed, compared with 88.8% and 11.2% respectively for Wairoa District.

Analysis of the labour force participation rate of the population in Wairoa in 2018 shows that there was a lower proportion in the labour force (60.7%) compared with Wairoa District (63.9%).
