Name origin

Pinehaven was named to describe the area, when extensive plantations of pine trees were planted.

Settlement history

European settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with some growth during the late 1800s. A pine plantation was established in the 1930s. Rapid growth took place during the 1950s and 1960s. The population declined slightly between 1996 and 2001, and then was relatively stable between 2001 and 2013.
