Settlement history

European settlement of the area dates from the late 1800s. Growth occurred during the early 1900s when the area became popular for week-end holidays. Rapid growth took place during the 1970s and 1980s. The population increased between 1996 and 2006 as new dwellings were added to the area, with growth slowing between 2006 and 2013 as fewer new dwellings were added.
