Name origin

Westshore was named to describe the location of the area, being the western shores of Napier.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1850s, with growth during the late 1800s. Expansion resumed during the 1950s and 1960s. The population declined slightly from the 1980s, a result of little change in dwelling stock and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.

Westshore is an established residential area, with substantial parklands.
