Greenmeadows is bounded by the suburb of Poraiti, Wharerangi Road, Westminster Avenue, York Avenue, Fryberg Avenue, Islington Place and Kennedy Road in the north, the Hawke's Bay Expressway in the east, Burness Road, Guppy Road, Osier Road, Avondale Road and the suburb of Taradale North in the south, and Church Road and Puketitiri Road in the west.

Name origin

Greenmeadows is named for the native danthonia grass which originally covered the area.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1850s, with land used mainly for sheep grazing. Population was minimal until the 1960s. Rapid growth took place during the 1970s. The population continued to increase from the 1980s as new dwellings were added to the area.
