European settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with land used mainly for market gardening. Population was minimal until the early 1900s. Significant residential development occurred from the 1930s, and then during the 1960s and 1970s. The population increased slightly between 1996 and 2013 as new dwellings were added to the area.
Avalon is an established residential and recreational area.
