Analysis of car ownership in 2013, indicates 56.3% of households in the Carterton District had access to two or more motor vehicles, compared to 42.5% in the Wellington Region.
The ability of the population to access services and employment is strongly influenced by access to transport. The number of motor vehicles per household in the Carterton District quantifies access to private transport and will be influenced by Age Structure and Household Type, which determine the number of adults present; access to Public Transport; distance to shops, services, employment and education; and Household Income. Dominant groups
Analysis of the car ownership of the households in the Carterton District in 2013 compared to the Wellington Region shows that 91.5% of the households owned at least one car, while 5.2% did not, compared with 84.5% and 11.2% respectively in the Wellington Region.
Of those that owned at least one vehicle, there was a smaller proportion who owned just one car; a larger proportion who owned two cars; and a larger proportion who owned three cars or more.
Overall, 35.2% of the households owned one car; 40.3% owned two cars; and 15.9% owned three cars or more, compared with 42.0%; 31.9% and 10.6% respectively for the Wellington Region.
