The age structure of the population is derived from the Date of Birth recorded on the Census form. It is consistent from 1996 to 2006.
Analysis of the age structure of Springvale West in 2006 compared to Wanganui District shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (0 to 14) but a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (60+).
Overall, 19.3% of the population was aged between 0 and 14, and 26.7% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 21.6% and 20.0% respectively for Wanganui District.
The major differences between the age structure of Springvale West and Wanganui District were:
- A larger percentage of 65 to 69 (7.4% compared to 4.6%);
- A larger percentage of 70 to 74 (6.1% compared to 4.2%);
- A larger percentage of 55 to 59 (7.2% compared to 6.2%), and;
- A smaller percentage of 20 to 24 (3.4% compared to 4.9%).
Between 2001 and 2006 there were no numerically significant changes in Springvale West's age structure data.
