Tawhero

Introduction and key statistics

Tawhero is an established residential area. Tawhero is bounded by Fox Road and Fitzherbert Avenue in the north, Parsons Street, the suburb of Gonville East and the western edge of Tawhero Golf Club in the east, Puriri Street in the south, and Rogers Street, the suburb of Mosston and the locality of Blueskin in the west.

Settlement of the area dates primarily from the late 1800s, with growth through the 1920s. Significant development occurred between the 1920s and 1940s, with further expansion from the late 1940s into the 1950s. The population fluctuated slightly from the mid 1990s, due to small changes in dwelling stock and the average number of persons living in each dwelling.

Major features of the area include Hutton Park and several schools.
