Introduction and key statistics

Rongotai - Moa Point includes residential, airport, retail and parkland areas. This area encompasses most of the suburbs of Moa Point and Rongotai, and small parts of Breaker Bay, Kilbirnie, Lyall Bay and Strathmore Park. Rongotai - Moa Point is bounded by Batten Street and the harbour in the north, generally by Calabar Road, Broadway, Miramar Golf Club and the suburb of Strathmore Park in the east, Cook Strait in the south, and the suburb of Lyall Bay, Resolution Street, Yule Street, Endeavour Street, Coutts Street, Salek Street and Rongotai Road in the west.

Colonial settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s. Growth took place from the late 1800s into the 1920s. The airport was opened in 1959, following land reclamation and the demolition of about 180 houses. Expansion continued from the post-war years. The population and dwelling stock were relatively stable between 1996 and 2006.
