Miramar is an established residential area with some light commercial areas. This small area encompasses most of the suburb of Miramar, and small parts of Maupuia and Seatoun. Miramar is bounded by Akaroa Drive, Waiwera Crescent, Akaroa Drive, Miramar North Road and Darlington Road in the north, Nevay Road, Seatoun Heights Road, the suburb of Seatoun, Townsend Road, Seatoun Heights Road and Beacon Hill Road in the east, Broadway in the south, and Calabar Road, Wellington Harbour, Arunid Street and Tauhinu Road in the west.
Colonial settlement of the area dates from the 1840s, with land used mainly for farming. Growth took place from the 1870s into the 1920s, spurred by subdivision and improved access. Expansion continued from the post-war years. The population increased slightly between 1996 and 2006, a result of new dwellings being added to the area, particularly medium density housing.
