Introduction and key statistics

Grenada Village - Paparangi - Woodridge - Horokiwi includes residential areas in the west and rural areas in the east. This small area encompasses most of the suburbs of Grenada Village, Horokiwi, Paparangi and Woodridge, and a small part of Newlands. Grenada Village - Paparangi - Woodridge - Horokiwi is bounded generally by the suburbs of Grenada North and Takapu Valley in the north, Hutt Road, the suburb of Newlands, Newlands Road, Stewart Drive, Padnell Crescent, Pelorous Street, Helston Park and Petherick Crescent in the south, and the Johnsonville-Porirua Motorway in the west.

Colonial settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with land used mainly for farming. Population was minimal until the late 1800s. Significant development did not occur until the early 1960s, initially in Paparangi. Subdivision reached the northern suburb of Grenada Village in the late 1970s. Rapid growth took place during the 1980s. The population continued to increase from the 1990s, although at a slower rate, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.
